The brief, “Criminal Justice Reform Demands Housing Reform: HUD’s New Plan to Make It Easier for People with a Criminal Record to Find Housing,” references HUD’s latest memo, which identifies barriers preventing individuals with criminal histories from securing safe and affordable housing. The brief explores local, state, and federal policies that contribute to the injustices of the criminal legal system; the role of the private sector; the devastating cycle of housing insecurity and recidivism; and recommendations for HUD and Congress.
