You can find information on our State Coalition Partners by clicking on the states to the right. You can learn about our Outreach Team here.
NLIHC has formed partnerships with statewide housing and homeless organizations in 37 states plus the District of Columbia. We are working to develop partnerships with similar statewide organizations or networks in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico.
The State Coalitions listed here are our main allies in fulfilling our mission: to end the affordable housing crisis for low income families. We hope you will join with them, as well as NLIHC, in supporting their efforts to serve as the voice for affordable housing in their state or region.
NLIHC State Coalition Partners are generally housing and/or homeless advocacy organizations which serve a statewide or large regional area and membership. Our partners have agreed to work closely with NLIHC to preserve, improve and expand the federal government's commitment to safe, decent, accessible, affordable housing for all Americans.
In addition to our State Coalition Partners, NLIHC has over 1100 organizational and individual members throughout the United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. You will not find our list of members on our web site. If you are interested in finding housing organizations in your area which advocate for affordable housing in your community and state, we encourage you to contact the NLIHC State Coalition partner in your state. If there is not a State Coalition listed in your state, you can contact the NLIHC Outreach Staff to learn which NLIHC members are in your area or state.
For more information on our State Coalitions Partners and national network of housing organization members, please contact Ed Gramlich, Outreach Director at the National Low Income Housing Coalition, at ed@nlihc.org or at 202-662-1530.
NLIHC has three Outreach Associates on staff, who report to the Outreach Director Director. Each of the Outreach Associates is assigned to specific regions of the country. Within their regions, each Outreach Associate is responsible for working with NLIHC members in four areas:
Membership development. Each Outreach Associate will strive to build relationships with NLIHC members in the states she covers, while at the same time, reaching out to other organizations with an interest in affordable housing policy. We aim to expand NLIHC's base in order to build a stronger national network of housing advocates and low income residents.
Federal housing policy. What federal housing issues do you need to be up-to-date on? Is there a need to call your legislators on a given issue? Our outreach team will keep you current and provide the information you need to maximize your effectiveness as an advocate.
National Housing Trust Fund. It is not enough simply to defend current housing resources; solving our country's affordable housing crisis demands a renewed federal commitment to housing that all people can afford. That's why we remain committed to establishing a National Housing Trust Fund. The Outreach Associates will continue to add organizations, editorial boards, and elected officials to the over 5,600 endorsers of the National Housing Trust Fund Campaign. They will also coordinate regular actions for endorsers, Trust Fund 101 conference calls for newer endorsers and road trips to key states across the country.
Voterization. When people who need affordable housing vote, housing is raised on the political agenda while people with low incomes become more deeply engaged in their communities. Our Voterization project offers a way for nonprofits to integrate voter registration, education and mobilization into their day-to-day activities. Throughout 2007 and 2008, the Outreach Team will work to train and prepare advocates for the election cycle and grow the program among advocacy organizations throughout the country.
We believe this structure aids our collective advocacy efforts by strengthening connections between NLIHC staff and members. In addition, each organizer is better able to get to know the members in her regions and is therefore be better able to respond to your needs.
Whether you have a federal policy question, want advice on your Voterization campaign, or have a question about membership, you have a direct point of contact at NLIHC. And you'll continue to hear from us when there's a federal housing issue that needs your attention.
Thank you for your support and good deeds as we work together to end the affordable housing crisis in the United States.
